The Game Time Series: The Bus Game

The bus game is an excellent game to play when you want to explore a new city that you’re unfamiliar with, but it can work just as well for discovering the far flung corners of a city that you thought you already knew pretty well too.

The rules are simple. Grab a friend or two and head to the bus stop. Jump on the first bus that comes and buy a day pass. Watch the streets whizz by for 10 or 15 minutes, then jump off the bus. Have a wander round whichever neighbourhood you find yourself in and have a nosey in the shops or grab a bite to eat. Head back to the bus stop and wait for the next bus. Rinse and repeat.

You can amend the rules as you see fit. It’s up to you if you want to set an allocated amount of time for staying on the bus, or to jump off when you see something that grabs your attention. You can even set a time limit for how long you stay in each place once you’re off the bus.

Just be sure to have a local map and/or the bus company’s telephone number with you, ready to find your way home at the end of the day!

Have you ever played the bus game?
