The Gardens of Apeltern is a twenty-three hectare park filled with over two hundred model gardens. Dubbed an 'inspiration garden', the idea is that you can recreate anything you see here in your own backyard.

Flowers, tree, bushes, hedges, fences, gates, ornaments, statues, birdhouses, ponds, fountains, tables, chairs, benches; this place had every piece of garden equipment you could imagine. We only had a couple of hours to explore, but you could easily spend an entire day here and not run out of things to see.

The added benefit was that like everywhere else in The Netherlands, everything here was so beautiful and perfect. I'll let you see for yourself...

Which is your favourite photo?

PS. If you love unusual gardens, be sure to have a look at this post on The Ewe Experience too.

I think they were actually really shoes, just lined up on a wall and left to go mouldy! I meant to ask about the story behind them but forgot all about it.

I could have spent all day just lying in that hammock! Too many beautiful gardens to admire though :)

I love all those shoes lines up, and the topiary shaped like a wheelbarrow!

There were lots of funny shaped bushes - bears, elephants, cows, etc. The wheelbarrow was definitely the cutest though :)

I love that first ornament too, so much character and love that it's made of wood.

If it's a sign of getting older, then I must be getting old too!

What a quirky garden! So beautiful though! I think the photo of the boots caught my attention the most, but I'm not sure why.

It was so peaceful, there was barely another person in sight the whole time we were there.
